Hi, I’m Yuta. I grew up and live in Yokohama, a port city of Kanagawa prefecture near Tokyo. I once lived in Kichijoji, located in the western part of Tokyo. I love walking around a street and taking pictures. On my article I introduce attractions mainly of Tokyo and Yokohama with many wonderful pictures. Please enjoy them!

The Yokohama City Central Wholesale Market is located in Kanagawa Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Fresh ingredients from the all over Japan, especially Kanagawa Prefecture, are gathered at the market every day. Usually only authorized personnel can enter the market, however, ordinary people can enter the market-affiliated area; which consists of restaurants and shops dealing with cooking tools and ingredients. The main customers in these shops are the traders of the market, so the items that are sold there are of very high quality. At the restaurants you can eat many great seafood dishes made from fresh ingredients, such as sushi (there are other things besides seafood too). Most of the shops and restaurants are open from morning to afternoon, but some of them are open until nighttime. The market is closed on Sunday and national holidays, so most shops and restaurants are also closed accordingly.
You can take a stroll around the marine products section of the wholesaler's market every 1st and 3rd Saturday morning of each month. The atmosphere is very lively and there is a lot to see! Events such as the tuna dismantling show and cooking class are held at the market, and at the tuna dismantling show, dismantled fresh tuna is served for free! It is very delicious!
The Yokohama City Central Wholesale Market is adjacent to the Minatomirai district and accessible by a 20-minute walk from Yokohama station. Though the market is smaller in comparison to Tokyo's Tsukiji Market, it is still a great place to eat delicious food and get high quality cooking tools. I highly recommend going when the market is open to the public because you'll be able to fully experience the unique atmosphere of the place. The market is within walking distance of Yokohama station so why not stop by next time you're in Yokohama?
