Hayama Market - The Sunday Morning Market

There is a long line in front of a popular shop.

It is a morning market hosted by Japan Agricultural Cooperative, Fishermen's Cooperative and Commerce and Industry Association. It is held at Hayama Yacht Harbor near the border between Zushi City and Hayama Town. If you come here, you will be able to get all specialties of Hayama. Cut Off Tart (100 yen) of La Maree De Chaya (a famous French restaurant) is sold up to 1 piece per person, but you can get it only if you start to get in a line from 7 a.m.

Vegetables and seafood of Hayama are sold very cheaply. Also you can get many foods using raw ingredients of Hayama.

Hayama Art & Music Festival

Hayama Art & Music Festival

Hayama Art & Music Festival is held from the middle of April to the middle of May every year. It started in 1993 when an art festival was not popular in Japan. It is said that Hayama Art & Music Festival is a pioneer of art festivals.

In Hayama Town there have been many people who were involved in art and culture since that time, but they had to visit Tokyo or Yokohama when they go to an exhibition or a concert. So they thought they wanted to see them in their hometown and it is the reason Hayama Art & Music Festival started.
The event has calm atmosphere created by people living in the town and its geographical feature surrounded by seas and mountains. At the festival people exchange polite hellos and tour houses and shops, which give people opportunity to meet each other and feel nature.

Hikage Chaya and La Maree De Chaya

You can find many cafes and restaurants having good sense when you walk around Hayama.
Among a lot of restaurants, Hikage Chaya and La Maree De Chaya are old and famous ones.

Hikage Chaya is a Japanese restaurant. You can enjoy Japanese foods including kaiseki ryori (a full course meal form of Japanese cuisine)

The building of Hikage Chaya is Japanese traditional house. There is a store of Japanese sweets next to it.

La Maree De Chaya is a French restaurant in Hayama.

The pretty building at the seaside that you imagine like it stands in the Southern France

Bar and cafe is on the first floor and restaurant is on the second floor. You can, of course, get a full view of the sea from the cute Southern France-designed inside. They serve really delicious dishes!

Lovely cafes and townscape of Hayama

Lovely cafes and townscape of Hayama

In addition to these two restaurants, there are more nice shops and restaurants. Hayama is also said to have many artists and the townscape is really beautiful. Old stores that have been there for a long time are interesting and stunning. There are a lot of places that were built by making the best use of old stuffs, so when you walk around there you will definitely want to stop by all of them. I’m afraid I can’t introduce all of the shops and restaurants so I put some pictures here.

Additional info

If you come to nearby the Imperial villa of Hayama, I’d like to introduce a facility which I’ve enjoyed.

“Beach” Outdoor Fitness Club

Usually fitness clubs have equipment, like exercise machines and swim pools at inside but this club takes advantage of the environment of Hayama and has many outdoor fitness programs.

You can take part in many different programs. For example, by OCEAN program, you can enjoy longboard surfing and stand up paddle surfing; by Beach/Studio program, you can enjoy Yoga or Tai Chi Chuan at the beach; by Mountain program, you can enjoy trekking and mountain bicycle.

You can use a shower and a coin locker and rent a surfboard and a wet suit, so you can go there empty-handed.

The prefectural Hayama Park and Hayama Sangaokayama Ryokuchi (the city park) is the places that can be a studio for the Beach program.

You can enjoy the both of the sea and the green tract of land and see people having each their own time: people taking a dog for walking, kids playing at the playground, and people doing yoga at the open space.
